Destiny Awaits Joliet
The present time is a critical one for the Joliet Region. The Chicago Metropolitan demographic expansion has now reached the northern part of the Joliet Region. That expansion will bring with it the kind of urbanization that Naperville has experienced. The demographic expansion of the Chicago Metropolitan area started with expansion north along the shore of Lake Michigan. It then started expanding Northwest and West. From there it has expanded south in a circle surrounding Chicago itself. The Metropolitan Area is over one hundred moles from its northern end to the southern end. In addition to that factor, the location of Joliet at the intersection of Interstate Route 55 and Interstate Route 80 has made it the ideal location for large distribution centers which serve extensive areas. Many of these properties are already constructed but many more will come. This is good news for the Joliet Region because these facilities provide both employment and tax support to the local communities of the area. In the years prior to the present build up of the region, the city of Joliet undertook an aggressive expansion program. As a result of this expansion, the city limits of Joliet now extend into Grundy county. This leaves Joliet in the fortunate position of being able to accommodate extensive future development of both residential and industrial properties. The Joliet Region also has large quantities of undeveloped land, especially to its south and eastern areas. There are presently approximately 1000 structures per square mile. That will soon increase rather dramatically. For all of the above reasons, the future of the Joliet Region will be exciting. Morgan F Bryan
